Westie (Westy) Portraits and Paintings

The Westie (Westy), otherwise known as the West Highland White Terrier, is a great subject to paint.  Unlike many other dogs I have painted, my Westie Portraits offer a unique challenge as they offer little variance in colour.  This means I usually need to apply a coloured background so they stand out against my usual plain white canvas.  Despite this the Westie Paintings are always cute, with a good contrast between their white coats and black button noses.

The Westy is a Scottish breed of Dog and is a very popular breed in the UK ranking in the top three for ownership.  Famous Westies include Hamish Macbeth, the Cesar dog and Scottish whisky Black & White.  The were bred as a rodent hunting dog and as you would expect from a terrier, they have a feisty temperament.  That said, they are very social and I look forward to getting a few more to paint.
